The first season of Bookish has just premiered on U&Alibi and is already available to watch in full on Sky, Virgin, BT, and TalkTalk. Made by and starring Mark Gatiss, the show follows Gabriel Book, an antiquarian bookshop owner in post-war London. But he’s no ordinary shopkeeper, Gabriel has a knack for sleuthing and quickly becomes an amateur detective in 1946 London.
Each set of two episodes takes Gabriel on a new mystery, but there’s more going on beneath the surface. Throughout the season, several ongoing storylines develop underneath the main plots, and not all of them are wrapped up by the final episode, episode 6.

“I’m thrilled that the team at U&Alibi are allowing me to dive back into the world of Bookish and create more fiendish crimes for Gabriel Book and the team to solve.”
Gatiss also added,
“I can’t wait for viewers to immerse themselves in the world we’ve created when the first series airs in a few months’ time.”
So, fans can rest easy knowing that there’s more vintage mystery, clever twists, and bookshop charm coming soon in season 2.
When will Bookish season 2 be released?
While there’s no official release date yet for Bookish season 2, the outlook is promising, especially for fans hoping they won’t have to wait too long.
The show was renewed before season 1 even hit screens, which is a strong sign of confidence from the network. On top of that, it has been confirmed that filming for season 2 is scheduled to begin in summer 2025.
With that timeline in mind, there’s a good chance the new season could be ready by summer 2026, possibly setting the show up for an annual release pattern moving forward.
