At this point, there is no release date available for Blue Eye Samurai Season Two. The series is still being created and is anticipated to be completed either in 2026 or later, as Netflix will continue to air new material over this timeframe.

On December 1st of 2023, just weeks after Blue Eye Samurai premiered its first season on November 15th of 2022, Netflix announced that it would be renewing the series for some additional episodes for another full season! The company later confirmed the production was ongoing as of August 2024 via a JJN involvement announcement, production featurette posted on Netflix Channels at events such as Anime NYC.

Blue Eye Samurai season 2: Release Date Speculation

The creators and reports have suggested that the second season of this series would take approximately three years to complete, and they originally estimated that season two would be ready by the end of 2026, similar to how long it took to create the first season.

However, at the beginning of 2026, there were recent reports that said the second season would likely be delayed until late 2027 because it didn’t appear on Netflix’s 2026 release schedule. Animation of this quality often requires a considerable amount of time to produce; there has also been a recent push for voice acting and additional product work.

Season two will have six episodes, with each episode being approximately 44 minutes long. Season one contained eight episodes, but each episode will now contain the same production value as an original motion picture.

Continue to expect updates/trailers or other significant announcements in late 2026.

Blue Eye Samurai season 2: Plot Details

At the end of Season 1, Mizu concludes her revenge on Abijah Fowler. Mizu travels to London, England, with an imprisoned Abijah to find the other two white men (Skeffington and Routely) who might be Mizu’s father. The action has moved from Edo-Japan to 17th-century England, and themes of identity, revenge, and cultural clash continue (Mizu as an outsider living in a place where people commonly have blue eyes).

According to the show’s creators, Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, Season 2 will continue Mizu’s bloody journey: “Mizu still has plenty of blood to bury!” Season 2 will contain more intense action (Mizu breaking into buildings and fighting) than Season 1 does; it will see characters returning from Season 1, such as Taigen, Ringo, Akemi, and the Swordmaker; and it may even include some surprise returns from characters who were killed in Season 1. The creators say that Season 2 will be consistent with the rest of the series in its stunning animation, swordplay, and emotional content.

Several promotional photos and behind-the-scenes videos recently released (also at the time of the production announcement) indicate even more visceral combat scenes to come for Mizu as she journeys abroad, and the creators already had developed their plans for Season 2 (and beyond) long before they started producing it, with a multi-season story arc planned.

For its storytelling, cultural details, and visuals, this show continues to be a major success as an adult animated program on Netflix.
