The final film in Ti West’s X trilogy, MaXXXine, is set to stream just in time for Halloween. You can watch it on Max starting Friday, October 18, and it will make its HBO premiere at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Saturday, October 19.
In MaXXXine, Mia Goth returns as Maxine Minx, an adult film star and aspiring actress in 1980s Hollywood, who is trying to escape her traumatic past after the Texas massacres of 1979. As she waits for her big break, a brutal killer starts targeting young actresses in the area. When her dark past is at risk of being exposed, Maxine must go to extreme lengths to protect her secret.
The film features a star-studded cast including Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon.
MaXXXine is written, directed, and produced by Ti West, with Mia Goth, Jacob Jaffke, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss also serving as producers.
MaXXXine is the third installment in West’s X trilogy, which began with X and was followed by Pearl. Released in March 2022, X is about a film crew making a porno on a rural Texas farm, where the elderly owners turn murderous upon discovering the film’s subject. The movie was a surprise hit, grossing over $15 million on a $1 million budget.
Following the success of X, West and Goth secretly filmed Pearl, a prequel set in 1918 that explores the backstory of the villain from the first film. Pearl, released in September 2022, delves into Pearl’s ambitions and crimes on her family’s farm. It grossed over $10 million and earned critical acclaim for Goth’s performance.
MaXXXine received mixed reviews but outperformed its predecessors at the box office, earning $21.5 million, making it the highest-grossing film in the trilogy.
