Apple TV+ has officially renewed Severance for a third season, much to the relief of fans who were left on the edge of their seats after the dramatic Season 2 finale. The series, which centers on employees at Lumon Industries who are forced to separate their work and personal memories, has become one of the platform’s biggest hits.
The renewal announcement came on March 21, 2025, just hours after the Season 2 finale aired, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. Executive producer and director Ben Stiller expressed his excitement about continuing the show, calling the experience of working on Severance creatively fulfilling. Although he joked about having no memory of it, he hinted that Season 3 would be just as enjoyable to make.
Creator Dan Erickson shared his enthusiasm for returning to work on the show, and humorously added, “If you see my innie, please don’t mention any of this to him. Thanks.” He also confirmed that the writing team is already back at work on the next season, with production expected to proceed more smoothly this time around.
The long wait between Seasons 1 and 2 was due to delays from the COVID-19 pandemic and the Hollywood strikes, with fans having to wait nearly three years for the new season. However, both Stiller and Erickson assured viewers that Season 3 will not take as long. Erickson noted that the production team is now more experienced and has a better understanding of how to streamline the process. He even joked, “I would love to finish the show before I’m 70.”
While no official release date has been given, the creative team is working hard to make sure that fans won’t have to wait as long for Season 3. So, while the wait continues, the show’s return is officially on the horizon.
