In April 1992, the Japanese entertainment scene witnessed the emergence of an anime that seemed to defy the norms of its culture. That anime was none other than Crayon Shin-chan. Initially met with skepticism due to its seemingly crass and lowbrow humor, akin to the early reception of The Simpsons, Crayon Shin-chan has since evolved into a beloved staple of family-oriented anime over the past three decades. Now, in a surprising turn of events, Crayon Shin-chan is teaming up with Japan’s national virtual idol, Hatsune Miku, for an exciting collaboration.
This unexpected partnership was not formally announced on the official X (formerly Twitter) accounts of either Crayon Shin-chan or Hatsune Miku. Instead, it was unveiled through the CURIOUSTORE X/Twitter account on April 5th. Although the announcement lacked detailed information, interested fans could find more details on the CURIOUSTORE homepage.

コラボグッズ第1弾が発売開始👏👏https://t.co/JTQJxyhy75 @PRTIMES_JPより— CURIOUSTORE公式 (@CURIOSTORE_offi) April 5, 2024
The collaboration between Crayon Shin-chan and Hatsune Miku will feature a range of merchandise, including acrylic heart-shaped key holders, acrylic stands, pin badges, a clear file folder, a seven-card postcard set, and stickers. These items showcase pairings of Crayon Shin-chan characters like Shinosuke Nohara with Hatsune Miku and others with various Vocaloid characters, all presented in the distinctive style of Crayon Shin-chan designs.
The prices of these collaboration items vary from 440 yen to 1,650 yen (approximately US$2.90 to US$10.90). However, there are restrictions on the number of individual items that can be ordered through CURIOUSTORE. For instance, customers can only order up to three of each specific item. Additionally, CURIOUSTORE does not offer international shipping.
Alternatively, the items are also available at the Futabasha store without order restrictions, although international shipping is not an option here either. For those who prefer in-store purchases, the merchandise will be sold at select Cinema Parade stores (Sunshine City, Daimaru Umeda, and New Chisato Airport), as well as at a popup store in the Lazona Kawasaki Plaza.
A second phase of the collaboration is scheduled to commence later in April, though details about these items have yet to be disclosed at the time of writing.
