Brittany Renner and P.J. Washington’s complicated relationship is back in the spotlight after the former Basketball Wives star reportedly filed to increase her monthly child support payments. Court documents obtained by Us Weekly reveal that Renner, 33, is seeking $35,000 per month from the NBA player, citing financial hardship and a higher cost of living since moving to California.
Renner claimed that her income from reality TV and social media has dried up and that her current $5,500 monthly support payments, determined when she lived in North Carolina, are no longer sufficient. In her filing, she wrote, “I am struggling to make ends meet, and I cannot provide Paul III a life anywhere similar to that of his father.”
Brittany and P.J. began dating in 2020, and their relationship quickly became serious. The couple welcomed their son, Paul Jermaine Washington III, in 2021, but their romance ended soon after his birth. Since then, their breakup has been marked by public disputes and tense custody battles. Earlier this month, the two made headlines again after a video of their heated exchange over custody went viral, with Washington’s wife, model Alisah Chanel, also present.
Renner argues that the current child support amount is unfair, especially given Washington’s recent $90 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks. She highlighted that while the NBA star lives in a 7,300-square-foot Texas mansion and enjoys a lavish lifestyle with luxury cars and designer clothes, she is currently living in a small Airbnb rental in West Hills, California, with only $81 in cash and no steady income.
She also stated that the requested increase would ensure her son has access to proper housing, education, and other essentials. Legal expert Patrick Baghdaserians commented on the case, saying, “Every child deserves the best opportunities life can afford them. For nearly 100 years, California courts have consistently maintained that the duty of a parent does not end by providing mere necessities if he or she is able to afford more.”
P.J. Washington has not yet commented publicly on Renner’s petition, but the case continues to fuel debate online about child support, financial fairness, and the realities of co-parenting under public scrutiny.
