Perioral Dermatitis is a skin condition characterized by red rashes that typically appear around the mouth. It can cause the skin to become scaly, dry, and flaky, along with swollen and inflamed bumps known as papules. This condition is often confused with acne due to its similar appearance.
In rare cases, Perioral Dermatitis can spread to the upper part of the face, including the nose and eyes. There have also been reports of it affecting the genital area, although this is very uncommon. Another variant of this condition is granulomatous perioral dermatitis, which presents with yellowish bumps instead of red ones and is more commonly seen in children.
Perioral Dermatitis can recur even after successful treatment, and in some cases, it may develop into rosacea. Lifestyle factors such as heavy use of face creams or topical steroid creams have been linked to its occurrence.
Hailey Bieber, known for her modeling career and radiant complexion, recently opened up about her struggles with Perioral Dermatitis in a TikTok video. She described the condition as a skin disorder resembling acne or rosacea, with red bumps appearing on the lower half of the face, around the mouth and nose folds. Bieber shared her skincare routine, mentioning the use of prescription azelaic acid cream at night to reduce inflammation, and Clindamycin during the day, both of which she obtained from her dermatologist. Her candid discussion sheds light on this common but often misunderstood skin condition.
