Bills fans have faced disappointment over the years, including Super Bowl losses in the 1990s and a long playoff drought in the 21st century. Despite the recent success of the Bills, playoff disappointment has persisted. However, fans are exploring a unique theory known as ‘feed the pit’ to change the team’s fortunes.

The theory circulating on TikTok suggests that a Bills fan falling into a construction pit at the site of the team’s new stadium before each of the last five games has led to victories. The concept is straightforward: if a fan sacrifices themselves by falling into the pit before a game, the Bills will win. The team hasn’t lost since Nov. 26, and their home winning streak dates back to Nov. 13.

While there was an incident in September where a man jumped into the construction pit before a game against the Raiders, it seems unrelated to motivating the team. The man was under the influence of drugs and engaged in inappropriate behavior. Additionally, the timeline doesn’t align with the Bills’ late-season success.

Despite the lack of concrete evidence supporting the theory, some fans find it remotely believable, considering the dedication of Bills Mafia. However, a prominent Buffalo lawyer, William Mattar, has discouraged fans from attempting such acts, emphasizing the legal consequences.

The new Highmark Stadium, set to open in 2026, is already gaining lore due to the pit theory. Construction began in June, and the stadium, estimated to cost $1.7 billion, will be located across the street from the current one. It is designed to accommodate 62,000 fans and will feature an outdoor setting with a canopy to shield fans from adverse weather conditions. The Bills hope to relocate a championship banner to the new stadium, and some fans playfully suggest that feeding the pit might be the key to achieving that goal.
