Gary Sinise’s son, McCanna “Mac” Sinise, battled chordoma, a rare form of bone cancer that affects the spine. Chordoma is notoriously difficult to treat, often resistant to traditional therapies such as surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Mac was diagnosed with this aggressive cancer in 2018, and despite undergoing multiple surgeries to remove tumors and receiving treatment, the cancer ultimately claimed his life.
Mac’s journey with chordoma was marked by resilience and determination. He underwent spinal surgeries in 2018 and 2019 to address the tumors, but unfortunately, the cancer continued to spread. Throughout his battle, Mac remained involved with his father’s charity, the Gary Sinise Foundation, where he contributed his talents and dedication to the cause of supporting military personnel, veterans, and their families.
Despite facing immense challenges, Mac’s spirit and love for music persisted. He even completed work on a second album titled “Resurrection & Revival” before his passing. His commitment to service and his unwavering faith were evident throughout his ordeal. Mac’s profound impact on those around him, including his family and the foundation, serves as a testament to his strength and the power of unity in facing adversity.
In a tribute to his son, Gary Sinise emphasized Mac’s deep Catholic faith, which provided him with solace and strength during his battle with cancer. Mac’s unwavering belief in God sustained him through the difficult journey, echoing the sentiment of St. Augustine’s quote: “You have made us for yourself oh Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.” Through his enduring faith and resilience, Mac’s legacy lives on as an inspiration to others facing similar challenges.
