The Netflix show Survival of the Thickest became very popular, and fans really loved it. But one of the actors from the show, Dan Amboyer, shared that he was really worried the show might not come back after Season 1. Dan joined the show in the second season and played a character named Harrison. On the show, Harrison falls in love with Peppermint, a transgender woman. Their love story is sweet and special, and by the end of Season 2, they even get married in the sixth episode.
Even though fans loved their story, Dan said he thought the show might get cancelled before Season 2 could happen. There was a long gap—almost two years—between the first and second season. During this time, many shows on different streaming apps were being cancelled because of problems in the TV industry, like strikes and low budgets.
Why did Dan Amboyer worry about the show’s cancellation?
Dan Amboyer also talked about another show he was in called Uncoupled. That show was first on Netflix, but Netflix didn’t want to continue it. So it moved to another network called Showtime. Even though they wrote Season 2, Showtime also cancelled it before filming even started. Dan called it a “crazy time” because of strikes and so much confusion in the TV world.
He said it’s a big problem now because many TV shows, even good ones, are being stopped suddenly. Even though people work very hard on them, they can be gone in a second. That’s why Dan said he is very thankful that Netflix still chose to make Season 2 of Survival of the Thickest. He said more people found the show during the second season, and it even became one of the most-watched shows on Netflix for a while.
Dan also said that if shows are given time and a chance to grow, more and more people will find and love them. He is happy that Netflix gave this show that chance.
Now, Dan really hopes there will be a third season. He talked about what he would like to see if the show continues. He said it would be amazing to show the day-to-day life of Harrison and Peppermint after marriage. He wants people to see how normal their life can be, even though they are very different in background and identity. He said it would be great to show them doing simple things like any other couple, cooking, working, spending time together, because it would help people understand that love is love, and that different kinds of couples are just as normal and beautiful.
Dan believes showing that kind of real, loving relationship on screen could really touch people’s hearts and make them feel seen.
