Wes Ramsey surprised fans by stepping back into the role of Peter August on General Hospital on January 23. His character had been killed off in 2022, so the return wasn’t something he expected. Ramsey said it was a pleasant surprise and he was ready to jump back into that world to work with his old friends.

Getting into Peter’s mindset was easier than he thought. He compared it to putting on a favorite old jacket that fits perfectly. The moment he got the script, it all came back to him instantly, like riding a bike.

Being back on set also felt familiar. He noticed little things, like the sounds of the stairs or doors, that brought back happy memories. Seeing the crew and actors again, some he hadn’t crossed paths with in years, was wonderful.

The scenes with Finola Hughes, who plays Anna Devane, were full of emotion. Ramsey said Peter is a complicated character, shaped by his upbringing and the man who groomed him, Cesar Faison. In these scenes, Peter becomes a reflection of Anna’s guilty conscience.

Ramsey praised the writing team for honoring Peter’s character. He said the dialogue felt almost poetic and gave him a lot to work with. Because the scenes took place in someone’s mind, the material was intense and allowed him and Hughes to really explore the characters.

One scene stood out where he physically interacted with Hughes’ character. Ramsey described it as powerful and a little frightening. He hoped it made the audience question if Peter was really there.

Reuniting with Hughes was a highlight for Ramsey. He said she instantly inspires him and makes every scene fun. He felt lucky to share the screen with her again and praised their complicated dynamic on the show.

The experience reminded Ramsey why he loves daytime TV. He said the genre allows for imagination and anything is possible. Being part of such pivotal scenes was exciting and rewarding for him.

The only downside was not being able to drive to work with his real-life partner, Laura Wright, who plays Carly Spencer. He cherished their carpool memories. Wright did make sure he had access to her dressing room during filming, which he appreciated.

Ramsey said he would happily return as Peter if the opportunity came again. He enjoys the unpredictable nature of daytime TV and is always ready to step back into the role.
