Carola Gauna, the fan who met Payne, shared her emotional experience on social media, saying, “He smiled at me and sang. I got goosebumps.” Recalling the encounter, Gauna said Payne was clearly intoxicated and behaving erratically, but still managed to share a moment with her. “I’m one of the last people he spoke to. I’m one of the last people he sang to,” she said, overwhelmed with disbelief.

Shortly after the meeting, Payne reportedly fell from his hotel room’s balcony. According to Buenos Aires police, they had been responding to reports of “an aggressive man who may have been under the effects of drugs and alcohol.” Hotel staff later revealed that Payne had been “destroying the entire room” before the fall.

Payne had been in Argentina to support his former bandmate, Niall Horan, who performed there days earlier. Celebrities and fans alike have expressed their grief. Olly Murs described the news as “devastating,” adding, “Liam shared the same dreams as me, so to see his life end so young hits hard.”
