Warner Bros. is gearing up to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone with a completely new theatrical experience. Ahead of HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter reboot series, the studio has announced that the beloved 2001 film will return to cinemas in an immersive “shared reality” format.

Developed in partnership with Cosm, this special version expands on earlier collaborations that transformed classics like The Matrix and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory into dome-screen spectacles. The updated Sorcerer’s Stone experience is expected to launch in early 2026, with ticket sales opening around that time.

Cosm’s technology uses an 87-foot LED dome that surrounds audiences with ultra-high-resolution visuals, creating the feeling of stepping directly into the Wizarding World. Venues currently operate in Los Angeles and Dallas, with upcoming locations in Detroit and Atlanta. The reimagined film presentation is produced with Little Cinema and MakeMake Entertainment.

Warner Bros. had already confirmed that Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone would receive a worldwide theatrical re-release in honor of its 25-year milestone. The Chris Columbus–directed film introduced viewers to Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and set the enchanting tone for the early years of the franchise.

Columbus, who directed the first two movies before the series shifted to other directors, recently addressed the controversy surrounding author J.K. Rowling, calling the situation “very sad.” Rowling herself has critiqued actress Emma Watson, adding to ongoing tensions in the fan community. Still, the franchise remains one of the most beloved in the world, ensuring strong excitement for the anniversary event.

HBO’s Full Harry Potter Remake Is Underway

Meanwhile, HBO is moving ahead with its full-scale Harry Potter television reboot. The series will adapt one book per season, giving the story more room to breathe than the original films. A new cast will take on the roles of the iconic trio, and the show is expected to premiere in 2027.

As Warner Bros. and Cosm experiment with new ways to bring classic films back to life, the immersive re-release of Sorcerer’s Stone is shaping up to be a must-see event for both longtime fans and newcomers discovering the magic for the first time.
