Vincent D’Onofrio’s portrayal of Kingpin in Daredevil: Born Again has garnered significant attention, especially after a particularly brutal sequence in the finale. In an interview with Variety, D’Onofrio shared his thoughts on how the intense scene came to life and how he approached making it stand out from other violent moments in the Daredevil series.
D’Onofrio explained that his initial reaction to the scene was one of curiosity and concern: “How are we going to do it?” He wanted to make sure the sequence felt distinct and impactful, setting it apart from previous moments of violence in the series. To achieve this, he immediately began collaborating with his crew, producers, and the special effects team to figure out how to shoot the scene in a way that would be visually and emotionally different.
The actor emphasized that they worked hard to ensure the scene felt new and unique, despite its brutality. “We figured it out: We did do something that feels different than what people have seen before when it comes to stuff like that,” D’Onofrio said. His commitment to the character and the scene was clear, as he wanted to contribute to making Daredevil: Born Again stand out from other shows.
D’Onofrio’s Kingpin remains one of the most compelling villains in the Marvel universe, and his dedication to making his character’s violent acts feel fresh adds a new layer of intensity to the show. Alongside Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page, and Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle (The Punisher), D’Onofrio’s performance continues to be one of the highlights of the series.
