The Justice Department, in collaboration with 16 attorneys general, officially filed the highly anticipated lawsuit on Thursday. The suit alleges that Apple’s iPhone ecosystem constitutes a monopoly and accuses the company of engaging in anti-competitive practices across various aspects of its business, including Apple Watch, advertising, browser, FaceTime, and news offerings.
During the press conference, Attorney General Garland was accompanied by Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, Acting Associate Attorney General Benjamin Mizer, Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter from the antitrust division, and New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin.
This lawsuit marks the Justice Department’s third legal action against Apple. Previous cases involved disputes over e-book prices and an alleged collusion scheme aimed at suppressing salaries.
