Twitter suspends Trump’s account; threatens permanent ban over violence at US Capitol

Twitter has suspended Donald Trump’s accounts on Wednesday over posts accused of inflaming violence in the US Capitol, ordering him to remove three rule-breaking tweets. The social media scrambled to respond to mayhem by supporters buying into Trump’s baseless attacks on the integrity of the election.
The unprecedented sanctions came after the president took to Twitter to repeat his numerous false claims about fraud and other impropriety in the election he lost to Joe Biden.
The social media platform locked Trump for 12 hours and said his account will remain locked if the offending tweets are not taken down, according to the Twitter safety team. Twitter also said that any future violations will result in permanent suspension of the account.
As a result of the unprecedented and ongoing violent situation in Washington, D.C., we have required the removal of three @realDonaldTrump Tweets that were posted earlier today for repeated and severe violations of our Civic Integrity policy. https://t.co/k6OkjNG3bM
