Hytale players have discovered a surprising way to increase the game’s frames per second. According to a report on social media, turning off the HUD (heads-up display) can raise FPS by around 60%. Early adopters say this works even on older hardware.

Hytale is still in early access and has some bugs that Hypixel Studios is working to fix. The game launched on January 13 for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It is available in three editions, with the base version starting at $20.

The indie sandbox traces its roots back to Minecraft’s fan-made Hypixel server. Its development hasn’t been smooth. Riot Games canceled the project in 2025 and disbanded Hypixel Studios. Studio founder Simon Collins-Laflamme later bought Hytale and Hypixel Studios from Riot and Tencent, reviving the studio as an independent developer.

On Reddit, a user named MadwolfBF shared that hiding Hytale’s HUD increased their FPS from 250 to 400. The HUD can be toggled with the F8 key. Pressing it once hides the HUD but leaves the player’s arms and items visible. Pressing it a second time hides the arms, and a third press restores everything.

MadwolfBF tested this on an older Intel CPU with 32GB of RAM and an Nvidia RTX 5070. Using Nvidia’s overlay for tracking, they confirmed the performance gains. Since Hytale’s recommended specs are modest, other players could also see boosts, even with graphics cards like the RTX 3060.

Not all players experienced the same performance jump. Some saw smaller improvements, making the HUD issue a curious case. Many are sharing MadwolfBF’s findings and asking Hypixel Studios to investigate.

Hytale Update 2 is also in the works. It will add a feature allowing players to hide helms and armor pieces. A pre-release version will be available for testing soon, though no exact date has been announced.

Despite early access quirks, Hypixel Studios says Hytale’s pre-release sales ensure long-term support. Players’ reports and feedback during this phase will help shape future updates and features.
