Trump wishes Joe Biden for the future as US President, bids goodbye

U.S. President Donald Trump, in a farewell address released on Tuesday, urged prayers for the new administration of President-elect Joe Biden but still declined to acknowledge his Democratic successor by name. He highlighted his accomplishment as president and offered luck as well as “best wishes” to the incoming administration. Earlier, Trump had announced that he will not be joining Biden at the inauguration

In a 19-minute pre-recorded video message released by the White House on Tuesday, Trump tried to strike a conciliatory tone by condemning the Capitol Hill riots and said that America is a nation of incredible, decent, faithful, and peace-loving citizens who all want our country to thrive and flourish. At the same time, he said that it was an honour beyond description as being the President of America. Thank you for this extraordinary privilege.

The president appeared to acknowledge his abrasive style rubbed many the wrong way, but he made no apologies for his conduct in the White House.

Trump even prayed for the success of Joe Biden in keeping America safe and prosperous and extending his best wishes and said that now more than ever, Americans must unify around their shared values and rise above partisan rancour to forge their common destiny.

“We did what we came here to do, and so much more,” he said. “I took on the tough battles, the hardest fights, the most difficult choices – because that’s what you elected me to do,” said Trump. He even remarked, “The greatest danger we face is a loss of confidence in ourselves, a loss of confidence in our national greatness.”
