Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are set to face off in their first debate of the 2024 presidential election tonight, September 10, at 9 p.m. EDT. Moderated by ABC News, this debate is a critical opportunity for both candidates to address undecided voters as the election approaches. The debate will be held at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, and will be moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis.
The debate will be broadcast live on ABC and is also available for streaming on several platforms including ABC News Live, Disney+, and Hulu. ABC News Live can be accessed through Samsung TV+, The Roku Channel, Amazon Fire TV devices, YouTube, Tubi, and most other streaming services. Viewers can also stream the debate through the ABC app on smartphones, tablets, and connected devices. For radio listeners, SiriusXM will provide live coverage on Channel 370.
In addition to the debate, a pre-debate special titled “Race for the White House” will air at 8 p.m. EDT. This special, featuring anchors Martha Raddatz, Jonathan Karl, Mary Bruce, and Rachel Scott, will offer analysis and context leading up to the debate.
The debate will last 90 minutes and will include two commercial breaks. David Muir and Linsey Davis will be the only individuals asking questions. Candidates’ microphones will be live only when it is their turn to speak and muted when not. Each candidate will have two minutes to respond to questions and another minute for follow-ups or clarifications. There will be no audience present, and no props or prewritten notes are allowed on stage.
Trump won a virtual coin toss and chose to make the final closing statement. Kamala Harris selected the podium on stage left. The debate will not feature opening statements; instead, each candidate will deliver a two-minute closing statement. The debate will follow strict rules to ensure a focused and orderly discussion, with no advance knowledge of topics or questions shared with the campaigns.
This debate marks the first time Trump and Harris will meet in person during this election cycle, making it a highly anticipated event as both candidates lay out their visions and policies for the upcoming election.
