Ed Kelce, the proud dad of NFL star Travis Kelce, recently shared a heartwarming and funny memory that’s been making people smile. The story involves his longtime girlfriend, Maureen Maguire, and none other than pop icon Taylor Swift. It happened back in the fall of 2023, during one of Travis’ Kansas City Chiefs games, when Taylor was still fairly new to the Kelce family circle. The memory has resurfaced and touched many after Maureen sadly passed away at the age of 74.

Ed explained in an interview with US Weekly that he and Taylor had stopped for a quick photo at the game. But before the camera clicked, Maureen jumped in with a playful remark that perfectly showed her sense of humor. Looking at Taylor, she joked, “Hey! That’s my boyfriend.” The comment was made in a teasing, half-serious way that had everyone laughing. Taylor, always quick to join in on a lighthearted moment, laughed too. Ed said they ended up posing more like a father and daughter instead, which made the whole exchange even sweeter.

The First Time Ed Met Taylor Swift

Ed also shared what it was like the very first time he met Taylor—and the story is just as endearing. Strangely enough, Travis wasn’t even around for that introduction since he was with his team before kickoff. As Ed described, “At a home game, there can be 20 people or more at Travis’ place, so it’s a bit of a madhouse.”

That particular day, Taylor showed up at Travis’ house, surrounded by her security team. Ed took one look at her and immediately felt like he recognized her—but then blanked on her name. He turned to Maureen and said, “Oh my God, I know this kid, but I don’t know what her name is.” He laughed, admitting he felt like a complete fool in the moment. Luckily, Maureen didn’t let him off the hook. She quickly corrected him, saying, “You don’t know her? This is Taylor Swift, you idiot.” Ed recalled the memory fondly, grateful for Maureen’s quick wit that always kept him grounded.

Remembering Maureen Maguire

Maureen Maguire lived a full and impactful life. Born and raised in the Bronx, she graduated from Archbishop Prendergast in 1968 before going on to earn her teaching degree from West Chester University in 1972. She went on to work as an elementary school teacher, where she shaped the lives of countless students with her kindness and dedication.

Beyond her career, Maureen’s biggest joy was her family. She leaves behind three children and six grandchildren, all of whom carry her love and legacy forward. Her funeral service is set to take place on August 7 at St. John Vianney Church in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory.
