Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are officially engaged, and now Travis’s dad, Ed Kelce, is sharing sweet details about how the proposal really happened. He told radio hosts that his son popped the question in the couple’s own garden at their home, keeping it private and intimate until they were ready to reveal the news on Instagram.

According to Ed, Travis first did things the traditional way and went to Taylor’s dad, Scott Swift, to ask for permission about a month before proposing. Ed said that Scott had been teasing Travis to finally “get it done” and told him that asking her was the part that would truly matter, not the setting. Ed agreed with that advice and laughed that the special moment came down to Travis just deciding he was ready.

When Taylor and Travis announced their engagement, they shared a carousel of photos showing the exact moment he got down on one knee. In the pictures, Taylor wears a striking Old Mine brilliant-cut diamond set in yellow gold. Travis worked with jeweller Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry to design it. Experts have valued the ring anywhere from hundreds of thousands to several million dollars. Ed joked that he wasn’t sure how much he was allowed to reveal but said it anyway.

Originally, Travis had planned a big production. Ed explained that he was considering something grand, even around his football trip to Brazil or possibly near the Super Bowl. But after talking with both families, he scrapped the spectacle and went for something more meaningful. Scott told him not to wait for the perfect timing or a dramatic setup, just to propose when it felt right.

On the day itself, Travis led Taylor into their garden for a quiet glass of wine before dinner. The space had been decorated with flowers and subtle details, with helpers making sure everything looked perfect while staying out of sight. Ed said it was beautiful and completely personal to them. Soon after, the couple FaceTimed their parents to share the news before anyone else.

The proposal happened at their home in the Kansas City area, and the couple chose to keep it private for a while so Taylor could focus on promoting her album. Ed said the families weren’t surprised when it finally happened because everyone could see how happy the two were together.

Even though Travis had thought about tying the proposal to a bigger public moment, he realized that what would truly make it special was asking Taylor in a way that was simple and heartfelt. Family from both sides gathered soon after, and once the announcement went up on Instagram, teammates, friends, and fans flooded them with congratulations.
