Tracee Ellis Ross recently shared her thoughts on dating and relationships in a candid conversation with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson on the IMO podcast. The 52-year-old Black-ish star explained that she is drawn to younger men not just for their physical appeal, but because she finds that many men her age are “steeped in a toxic masculinity” and have been raised with traditional views of relationships that she no longer identifies with.
Ross expressed that she doesn’t want to feel controlled or treated as a possession, and she emphasized that she would never tolerate that dynamic again. Reflecting on her past relationships, she mentioned the noticeable difference between dating men her age and younger men, who she feels are more open to embracing gender fluidity and modern views on sexuality.
Rather than using dating apps, Ross prefers meeting people “in the wild” and seeks relationships that enrich her life rather than conform to societal expectations. She described herself as a “unique sort of unicorn of a woman” and stated that only someone equally unique could win her heart. Until that person comes along, she’s learned to focus on her own happiness and not wait around for the “wrong person.”
Ross also touched on the idea of marriage and children, admitting that while she grieves not having those experiences, she would rather remain single than settle for the wrong relationship.
Throughout her career, Ross has been a strong advocate for independence and self-worth, and this recent discussion further highlights her commitment to living life on her own terms.
