Tom Holland has revealed that he’s planning to take a step back from acting in 2027 to avoid overworking himself. The Spider-Man star opened up in a recent conversation with British GQ, saying that after a packed schedule in 2026, he intends to carve out more time for rest and balance.

“I feel really blessed to be at a point in my career where I can take time off, reset, and come back ready to go,” Holland said. “You can’t be in every movie, and you can’t do your best work when you’re burnt out.”

The actor already has two high-profile projects lined up for next year. Holland will return as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel’s highly anticipated fourth installment in the franchise. He will also star as Telemachus in Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey. Both films are slated for summer 2026 releases, making it one of Holland’s busiest years yet.

Reflecting on his approach to work, Holland emphasized the importance of boundaries. “What I’ve learnt is that it’s important to set boundaries, to be mindful about overworking,” he told the magazine. “I’ve got a slightly busy year next year, and then I’ll probably take a bit more time off in 2027. We’ll see.”

The actor’s comments build on the growing conversation about mental health in Hollywood. In 2023, he stepped away from acting and social media after filming The Crowded Room, explaining that the intense project left him emotionally drained. The year off, he said, was something he “needed” after acting continuously since childhood.

During that break, Holland discovered a newfound joy in golf, even winning a tournament alongside his brothers and English golf pro Tommy Fleetwood. “It was the best day of my life,” he recalled. “I called my lady and was like, ‘Listen, I’m thinking of turning pro.’”

Holland has also been candid about the possibility of stepping away from Hollywood entirely. In a Men’s Health interview earlier this year, he revealed that he plans to retire from acting once he becomes a father. “When I have kids, you will not see me in movies anymore,” he shared. “Golf and dad. And I will just disappear off the face of the earth.”

The actor, who is engaged to his Spider-Man co-star Zendaya, has made it clear that a quieter family life is part of his long-term vision. Until then, fans can expect to see him headline two of the most anticipated films of 2026 before he takes that much-needed breather.
