The White Lotus recently introduced viewers to Tim Ratliff, a deeply troubled father who’s grappling with his crumbling wealth due to his white-collar crimes. Tim, who contemplates which of his family members might go down with him, is certainly a shocking character for many. But for Harry Potter fans, it might just feel like a familiar face—Lucius Malfoy, of course.
Why? Because both characters are played by Jason Isaacs, who brings that same intense, dark energy to each role. In a recent interview, Tom Felton, who played Isaacs’ on-screen son Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter series, shared insights into his enduring friendship with the actor. During the grand opening of a new Harry Potter shop in Chicago, Felton caught up with People magazine and revealed just how close he remains to Isaacs. “I still call him ‘Dad,'” Felton said, noting their strong bond. The two last met when Felton was about to head off to Thailand to shoot The White Lotus. Felton said he was “thrilled” to watch Isaacs’ performance in the show, clearly proud of his friend’s work.
As for The White Lotus itself, Felton had nothing but praise. He’s a huge fan of the show, and he couldn’t help but admire its beautiful cinematography and “wickedly complex character storylines.” He also mentioned how much fun it’s been to watch and expressed his admiration for Mike White, the show’s creator.
Meanwhile, Isaacs, who’s been receiving a lot of praise for his portrayal of the unhinged Tim, took to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to respond to criticism about his North Carolina accent in the show. Some viewers weren’t too impressed, but Isaacs, ever the comedian, poked fun at the backlash. He jokingly said, “I was wearing a prosthetic tongue to do the accent. Durham, North Carolina, is hard to get your lips around. My real tongue is small, green, shriveled, and shaped like a pretzel.”
Looks like Isaacs is handling the criticism with a sense of humor, proving once again that he’s just as entertaining off-screen as he is on.
