Fans of the Harry Potter films have had mixed feelings about the new series adaptation, largely due to nostalgia for the original cast. But Timothy Spall, who played Wormtail/Peter Pettigrew in the films, has spoken out, calling much of the negativity “uncalled for.”

In a chat with Hindustan Times, Spall explained:
“We live in the age of negativity. People jump to conclusions very quickly… I cannot imagine it being anything other than a huge success because the franchise has been such a phenomenon.”

He praised the story’s simplicity and enduring appeal, noting that it inspires young readers and encourages imagination.

Spall also encouraged audiences to give the new cast—Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, and Alastair Stout as Ron—a fair chance. He said:
“There are bound to be detractors, given the overwhelming love for it. But I think people will be delighted to see some fresh air.”

Highlighting the advantage of a series format, he added that the reboot will explore more details than the films ever could:
“They’ve made careers of so many people. But they are just films, and one can’t include the whole book… The series will be able to go into more detail… Great stories can be retold over and over again.”

Spall’s perspective is a reminder that a fresh take on a beloved story doesn’t diminish the original—rather, it offers fans a chance to see more of the magical world they love.
