Back in July 2014, one of the most talked-about celebrity showdowns took place at the upscale Cipriani restaurant in Ibiza, Spain, when tensions between Justin Bieber and Orlando Bloom exploded in public.
According to TMZ, the confrontation almost turned physical when Bloom reportedly tried to punch Bieber. While the actual punch wasn’t caught on camera, a video did surface showing the two stars facing off, with several people stepping in to separate them. The incident quickly went viral and dominated headlines.
So what sparked it? Eyewitnesses claimed that Bloom refused to shake Bieber’s hand, which already set a tense tone. Things escalated when Bieber allegedly made a snide remark about Bloom’s ex-wife, Miranda Kerr, saying something along the lines of “She was good,” which many took as a not-so-subtle jab implying a romantic or sexual encounter.
Here’s the backstory: Bloom and Kerr had announced their separation in 2012 after being married since 2010. Around that same time, Bieber and Kerr were rumored to have gotten close at the 2012 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, where he performed and she walked the runway. Rumors claimed they were spotted together backstage and at an afterparty. Though Kerr and her legal team denied any involvement, speculation never really died down—especially after Bieber posted a photo of Kerr in a bikini shortly after the Ibiza fight, only to delete it soon after. It didn’t help his case.
Adding more drama to the moment, a Spanish journalist, Anastasia Skolkova, told The Mirror that Leonardo DiCaprio was also present that night—seated at Bloom’s table, no less. She recalled the restaurant going silent and then erupting like a live show as people clapped when Bloom allegedly swung at Bieber. According to her, even DiCaprio “was flipping out.”
Bieber, never one to back down quietly at that time, went online to taunt Bloom further. He posted a photo of Bloom looking upset and later added a cryptic “Keeping it positive” message on social media. Both posts were later deleted, but the damage—and the headlines—were done.
Ironically, the web of connections didn’t stop there. Later in 2014, Orlando Bloom was seen hanging out with Selena Gomez, Bieber’s then-ex. The two were spotted together at events and clubs, including in Las Vegas, fueling even more rumors and speculation.
Fast-forward to today, and the dust has settled. Bieber is now married to Hailey Baldwin (now Hailey Bieber), and Bloom is engaged to pop star Katy Perry. In a full-circle moment, Perry even attended Justin and Hailey’s 2019 wedding—without Bloom—prompting some to wonder if the old grudge might still quietly exist behind the smiles.
