Coachella, America’s most iconic music festival, officially kicked off on April 11, and as always, it delivered big on surprises and unforgettable performances. Known for its star-studded lineups and once-in-a-lifetime collaborations, this year’s festival didn’t disappoint.

Staying true to Coachella tradition, several performers stunned the crowd with unexpected guest appearances. One of the standout moments came when The Go-Go’s took over the Outdoor Theatre stage on opening night. Midway through their set, they brought out Green Day’s frontman Billie Joe Armstrong for a surprise live performance of their brand-new collaborative track, Head Over Heels.

Elsewhere on the festival grounds, legendary hip-hop group Three 6 Mafia amped up their show by bringing a powerhouse lineup of guests to the stage. Among them were Project Pat, Machine Gun Kelly, Travis Barker, and Wiz Khalifa—making their set one of the most talked-about of the night.

Pop sensation Charli XCX made her long-awaited Coachella debut with a headline-worthy performance. To make the moment even more memorable, she welcomed longtime friend and collaborator Troye Sivan to the stage. Fans were thrilled to see the duo reunite live, especially since they hadn’t performed together since co-headlining their SWEAT tour. Together, they debuted a remix of Caroline Polachek’s Welcome to My Island, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Though rumors had circulated earlier about a possible Sivan appearance, it still caught most fans off guard—in the best way.

One of the most magical moments of the night came during Benson Boone’s set. The 22-year-old rising star stunned the audience by bringing out none other than Queen’s legendary guitarist Brian May. The two performed an emotional rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody, a moment that quickly went viral online. Later, May shared a photo of the two flying together and captioned it, “Gonna treasure this moment on the plane with Benson Boone—a truly golden 22-year-old prodigy.”

Wrapping up the evening with another nostalgic twist, Zedd surprised fans by reuniting with country-pop star Maren Morris. The duo performed their chart-topping hit The Middle, echoing their 2019 Coachella performance and giving fans a healthy dose of feel-good energy.

With just day one in the books, Coachella 2025 has already proven that it’s once again the place where music history gets made.
