Golden State Warriors fans, get ready to feel old, and a little excited.
One of the most electrifying players in Warriors history, Jason Richardson, now has a son headed to the NBA. That’s right — Jase Richardson, after just one standout season at Michigan State, officially declared for the 2025 NBA Draft this week.
And yes, the Michigan State connection runs deep. Jason himself was drafted fifth overall by the Warriors back in 2001 — straight out of MSU. While Jase may not soar through the air like his dad (who averaged 18.3 points and lit up dunk contests with ease), he brings a totally different kind of game to the table.
Jase is a lefty with a polished, smooth, and smart approach to the game. His style isn’t built on high-flying theatrics, but rather on control, efficiency, and versatility — the kind of player modern NBA teams love to build around. He’s not expected to go as high as his dad did on draft night, but he’s widely projected as a first-round pick.
In his draft announcement, Jase gave a heartfelt shoutout to his biggest supporters: his family.
“I wouldn’t be here without the love, sacrifice, and support of my family,” he wrote. “You’ve been with me every step of the way.”
And unlike some players who keep the option open to return to college, Jase’s announcement was crystal clear: he’s all-in on the NBA.
While he may not be a dunk contest icon like his father, Jase is carving out his own path — and so far, it’s looking like a bright one. Keep an eye out: the next Richardson chapter in the league is about to begin.
More about Jase Richardson
Jase Richardson is a rising basketball talent who recently completed his freshman season at Michigan State University. He is the son of former NBA star Jason Richardson, who had a notable 14-year career in the league. Jason was known for his exceptional dunking ability, winning the NBA Slam Dunk Contest twice, and was drafted fifth overall by the Golden State Warriors in 2001 after playing for Michigan State. Following in his father’s footsteps, Jase played for the Spartans and has now declared for the 2025 NBA Draft
