Matt Damon shared an amusing and candid story about his daughter’s critique of one of his movies during an appearance on the WTF Podcast with Marc Maron. Damon revealed that his daughter is one of his harshest critics, and her humorous negative reviews of his films provide some levity in the family.

The movie in question is “The Great Wall,” a 2016 action film in which Damon plays an imprisoned European mercenary in China who teams up with the country’s army to combat an extraterrestrial threat. Damon was drawn to the film by director Zhang Yimou, whom he greatly admired.

Damon recounted an exchange with the director on set through their translator, Frank, where he expressed concerns about a scene feeling off. However, he soon realized that the director was consciously making what he perceived to be a Hollywood movie influenced by Hollywood partners.

Realizing the challenges, Damon humorously recalled, “This is exactly how disasters happen. I’m like: ‘Please tell him I came here to be in one of his movies.'” Despite Damon’s efforts, he admitted that it was too late to save “The Great Wall,” acknowledging that the movie “doesn’t work.”

The amusing twist comes when Damon’s daughter, with a sharp wit, refers to the film simply as “The Wall” and dismissively states, “Dad, there’s nothing great about that movie.” Damon shared this humorous anecdote, highlighting the candid and critical perspective his daughter brings to his filmography.
