The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro has entered the foldable phone arena in China, posing as a formidable contender against some of the leading foldable devices in the market. Bolstering its prowess is the incorporation of Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, which elevates its performance to rival flagship-grade smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S24 series and the OnePlus 12.
Vivo X Fold 3 features explained
This strategic move by Vivo provides the X Fold 3 Pro with a significant edge over its competitors, as many current foldable phones rely on older chipset iterations such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 8 Plus Gen 1, and Tensor G2. Leveraging the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 promises not only enhanced clock speeds and benchmark performance but also improved multitasking capabilities and gaming potential.
However, the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro doesn’t just rely on its powerful chipset to stand out. Both the X Fold 3 and X Fold 3 Pro boast high-performance features, including a 6.53-inch OLED cover display with a resolution of 2,748 x 1,172 and an inner folding 8.03-inch OLED screen supporting a resolution of 2,480 x 2,200. These displays offer higher resolutions than competitors like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Google Pixel Fold, with support for 120Hz refresh rates and a peak brightness of 4,500 nits.
Moreover, the X Fold 3 Pro features storage configurations ranging from 512GB to 1TB, while the X Fold 3 offers options of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Both models are equipped with substantial RAM capacities, with the X Fold 3 Pro featuring 16GB RAM and the X Fold 3 offering variations of 12GB or 16GB.
In terms of battery performance, the X Fold 3 Pro boasts a massive 5,700mAh battery, the largest among folding phones, along with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging capabilities. The X Fold 3 is no slouch either, housing a 5,500mAh battery and featuring 80W wired charging.
Design-wise, both models sport a circular camera module on the back and a carbon fiber hinge. The X Fold 3 Pro distinguishes itself with its thinner profile, measuring at 11.2mm when folded, while the standard X Fold 3 is slightly thicker at 10.2mm. When unfolded, the X Fold 3 impressively shrinks to just 4.65mm, making it one of the thinnest options available.
On the imaging front, the X Fold 3 Pro features a triple camera system, comprising a 50MP main camera, a 64MP telephoto camera, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera, alongside dual 32MP selfie cameras. Notably, it supports recording up to 8K video, matching the capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.
As for pricing, the Vivo X Fold 3 starts at 6,999 yuan, while the X Fold 3 Pro begins at 9,999 yuan. If these prices hold true, both models could offer a more affordable alternative to competitors like the Google Pixel Fold and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. While currently available only in China, there are indications that the X Fold 3 may see a global release, potentially disrupting the dominance of established players in the foldable phone market.
