The film “Titanic,” directed by James Cameron, has captivated audiences worldwide with its epic love story, propelling its main leads, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, to immense fame. However, amidst its acclaim, one of the most debated aspects of this classic movie revolves around whether Jack could have fit alongside Rose on the door towards the end of the film. This enduring debate has prompted the director to revisit the scene to reach a definitive conclusion. Nevertheless, the door itself has attained iconic status, becoming as renowned as the film’s protagonists, and recently, it fetched an astronomical price at auction.

Beyond its cultural impact, “Titanic” stands as both a critical and commercial triumph, garnering eleven Oscars and ranking among the highest-grossing films of all time since its release in 1997. The pivotal moment in the film occurs when Jack implores Rose to use the door as a makeshift raft to survive the freezing waters of the Atlantic after the ship’s tragic sinking. However, the limited space on the door becomes a poignant realization for both Rose and the audience, ultimately leading to Jack’s demise from hypothermia.

The infamous door from “Titanic” was recently auctioned at the Heritage Auctions’ Treasures from Planet Hollywood event, alongside other iconic movie props such as Indiana Jones’ whip from “The Temple of Doom” and the ax from “The Shining.” According to THR, the door fetched a staggering sum of $718,750, surpassing the prices of the Indiana Jones whip and The Shining ax. Harrison Ford’s whip from “The Temple of Doom” claimed the second spot at $525,000, followed by Jack Nicholson’s ax and Kate Winslet’s chiffon dress, which sold for $125,000.

In addition to these notable items, memorabilia from other beloved films, including Tobey Maguire’s black suit from “Spider-Man 3,” Wayne Knight’s shaving cream can from “Jurassic Park,” and Bill Murray’s bowling ball from “Kingpin,” were also auctioned at the event.

The enduring popularity of “Titanic” was further highlighted by its re-release on Valentine’s Day last year, during Valentine’s week, allowing audiences to revisit the timeless love story of Jack and Rose. The film not only solidified the on-screen chemistry between DiCaprio and Winslet but also fostered a lasting friendship between the two actors, which has endured throughout the years. For those eager to experience the magic of their love story once more, “Titanic” is available for streaming online to Disney+Hotstar subscribers.
