The Witcher season 4 release date
Netflix has confirmed that The Witcher season 4 will come out sometime in 2025, but they haven’t said the exact day yet. Since the show wasn’t mentioned during Tudum 2025, many fans think it might come late in 2025 or maybe even get delayed until 2026.
Filming for season 4 is done. Freya Allan, one of the main actors, said goodbye to the cast on Instagram in late October 2024. Liam Hemsworth, the new actor playing Geralt, also shared some info about filming during a TV interview. He said they had about three weeks of shooting left after that interview, and they had already been filming for about eight months. After finishing those last weeks, they planned to take a break for about four months before coming back next year to shoot season 5 for another eight months.
So, while season 4 is coming soon, season 5 is already in the works too!
The Witcher season 4 cast
When The Witcher season 4 comes to Netflix in 2025, the cast will have some new faces as well as familiar ones. Henry Cavill, who played Geralt of Rivia, has left the show, so a new actor, Liam Hemsworth, will take over the role. Besides Cavill, some other characters from previous seasons won’t be coming back either.
Several characters who died in season 3, like Tissaia, Lydia, Filavandrel, Artorius, Gallatin, and Rience, won’t be returning because their stories ended. Also, Kim Bodnia, who played Vesemir (Geralt’s mentor), won’t be back because of other work commitments that clash with the filming schedule.
So, season 4 will have a mix of returning actors and new ones, as the story moves forward with fresh faces and changes in the cast.

The Witcher season 4 plot details
Per Neftlix, the synopsis reads:
“After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out season three, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire – and finding one another again.”
We don’t have many exact details about the story for The Witcher season 4 yet, but from what happened at the end of season 3, there are a lot of things that need to be explored next.
One big part will be about Ciri joining a group called The Rats. These are young criminals, and they might even get their own spin-off show. But for now, we expect to see more about them in season 4.
If the show follows the books, season 4 will cover most of the story called Baptism of Fire, which is the third book by Andrzej Sapkowski. Without giving away too much, this story is about Geralt getting involved in a new war between two sides, while Ciri tries to find her place with The Rats.
Freya Allan, who plays Ciri, said in an interview that she wanted Ciri to show more action and skills in season 4. Even though Ciri might not be killing anyone yet, she’s starting to use what she’s learned in real situations. Ciri will also go by a new name, Falka, so expect to see a different side of her.
Geralt and Yennefer’s job will be a bit simpler: they’ll be trying to find Ciri and keep her safe. At the same time, Yennefer will be dealing with the aftermath of a big attack at Aretuza and the loss of her teacher, Tissaia.
In the kingdom of Redania, Prince Radovid has become King Radovid, which probably means trouble—especially for Jaskier, the bard. Meanwhile, two other powerful characters, Vilgefortz and Emhyr, believe they’ve finally brought Ciri back home, but she’s not quite the same anymore.
There’s a lot of exciting stuff coming up, and fans can’t wait to see how all these stories unfold in season 4.
Who is playing Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher season 4?
Yes, it’s true! Liam Hemsworth, who is famous for starring in The Hunger Games movies, some of the most exciting action films out there, will be taking over the role of Geralt of Rivia. He’s replacing Henry Cavill, who played Geralt in the first three seasons.
Liam shared the news himself on Instagram. He said he’s a big fan of The Witcher and is really happy to get the chance to play Geralt. He also praised Henry Cavill, calling him an amazing Geralt and said he feels honored to take over the role and continue the story of the White Wolf.
Liam admitted that filling Henry’s shoes is a big challenge, but he’s excited and ready to jump into the world of The Witcher and bring his own take on the character.
