S.W.A.T. fans, it’s official—Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson is back. Shemar Moore is set to reprise his iconic role in S.W.A.T. Exiles, a spin-off series from Sony Pictures Studios, as confirmed by Deadline.

The new 10-episode drama will begin production this summer in Los Angeles and is being developed with a focus on global distribution. The studio plans to partner with networks and platforms worldwide to bring this next chapter to the show’s passionate audience—and hopefully gain new fans along the way.

Not only will Moore star, but he’s also stepping into the role of executive producer, alongside S.W.A.T. veterans Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, as well as James Scura. Jason Ning will serve as showrunner, adding a fresh voice to the franchise.

While additional casting hasn’t been announced, much of the original 200-person production team will return, providing continuity behind the scenes.

The official logline teases an intense new direction: “After a high-profile mission goes sideways, Hondo is pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits.” The story promises to explore generational divides, personality clashes, and Hondo’s struggle to mold a group of outsiders into a functioning elite team.

The original S.W.A.T. wrapped its eight-season run on CBS on May 16. But with Exiles, Hondo’s story is far from over.
