The Rings of Power Season 3: Release Timeline
Filming was officially completed in December 2025, which Amazon announced in early December 2025, and posted a wrap video via social media showing accepting their final wrap at Shepperton Studios in the UK, where they filmed most of their scenes from mid-May through the end of October 2025.
No confirmed release date as of yet; based on previous experience, it should take 14-20 months from wrap to premiere (i.e., Season 2 ended filming earlier than August 2024).
Assuming similar post-production duration (i.e., heavy VFX post-production), most sources predict a premiere date for late 2026 (e.g., August – December) or, more conservatively, early to mid-2027 (around August 2027).
While some reports/rumors suggest that they want to hit internal targets of late 2026, the longer duration of the post-production process has led many publications (e.g., GamesRadar, Forbes) to agree that 2027 is most likely.

The fact that the saga of this series is continuing in the Second Age, as described in Tolkien’s Appendices, is still in effect (because copyright issues prevent the use of anything from The Silmarillion).
Season three runs at least several years beyond the season two finale, escalating toward the battle that takes place between Sauron and the Elves.
Expected to see huge battles; tensions rise between the Elves, Men, and Dwarves will increase; and in general, an “all-out war” across all of Middle-earth.
Some of the key elements of this season include:
– The impact Sauron’s deceptions had on others (i.e., the role of Annatar).
– The downfall of Númenor due to the corruption of Pharazon and the insane.
– The continuation of the storyline of the Stranger (possibly the future confirmation of the Stranger to be Gandalf).
– The Unraveling of Trust and the Path to Greater Despair, and the fallout from the forging of power.
– An overall buildup toward the eventual War of the Last Alliance (although there are a total of five scheduled seasons).
