Nearly a decade after its initial release, Disney has finally confirmed that the beloved animated film Moana will be receiving a long-awaited sequel. It seems the sequel bug is still very much alive within the House of Mouse. With the announcement came the release date for Moana 2, accompanied by a captivating new poster and the promise of an upcoming trailer.
While the first film was a captivating coming-of-age epic, Moana’s story is about to embark on an even more adventurous journey. Beyond the shores of Motonui lies a vast world waiting to be explored, and fortunately, Moana won’t be undertaking this journey alone. As for the plot of Moana 2, while full details remain under wraps, some hints have been dropped regarding what audiences can expect. Set three years after the events of the first film, the sequel will follow Moana, now the chief of her village, and Maui as they embark on another epic adventure across the seas of Oceania. According to the synopsis released by The Walt Disney Company, this sequel will see Moana and Maui venturing on an expansive journey in search of people beyond the shores of Motunui. Along the way, they will encounter new challenges and dangers unlike any they have faced before.
Moana 2 release date
The release date for Moana 2 was revealed in a joint Instagram post by Disney Plus, Dwayne Johnson, and Auli’i Cravalho, who voiced Moana in the original film. The post also teased the trailer announcement and unveiled a striking new poster featuring Maui’s iconic hook and a boat oar forming the shape of the number 2. The theatrical release date for *Moana 2* is set for November 27, 2024.
While Cravalho and Johnson will be reprising their roles in the sequel, other cast members have yet to be announced. Behind the scenes, Dave Derrick Jr. will be taking the helm as director, Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa’i will return as composers and songwriters, although Lin-Manuel Miranda will not be returning as a songwriter for the sequel.
