The world of Hunger Games is coming back to theaters! On November 20, the first look at several characters from the upcoming sixth installment, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, was revealed. The trailer focuses on Haymitch Abernathy, now played by Joseph Zada, who takes over the role originally played by Woody Harrelson. It also gives glimpses of many other key characters in the story.
The trailer shows the events of the 50th Hunger Games, which is the second Quarter Quell, meaning each district sends double the tributes. Haymitch, representing the 12th district, must fight to survive while protecting his family and girlfriend back home. President Coriolanus Snow watches the action unfold as the chaos begins.
Elle Fanning plays a young Effie Trinket, Ralph Fiennes returns as President Snow, Kieran Culkin is Caesar Flickerman, and Jesse Plemons takes on a young Plutarch Heavensbee. Other cast members include Kelvin Harrison Jr., Glenn Close, Maya Hawke, McKenna Grace, Billy Porter, Lili Taylor, Whitney Peak, Ben Wang, Molly McCann, Iona Bell, Edvin Ryding, Kara Tointon, and Percy Daggs IV.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is a sequel to the 2023 film The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and a prequel to the original 2012 Hunger Games movie. It is based on Suzanne Collins’ 2025 novel of the same name.
Francis Lawrence will return as director, with much of the film shot in Spain and other locations. The movie is set to release in the United States and Canada on November 20, 2026.
