If you’re someone who loves The Gilded Age, there’s big news, the third season is finally coming out this weekend, and it’s going to be full of surprises.
This show, made by Julian Fellowes, continues to follow the lives of rich families living in New York City in the late 1800s. This new season brings not just more characters, but also even more dramatic twists than before. The trailer has already shown us a bit of what’s coming, especially a major conflict between George and Bertha over what they believe marriage should be like. And it looks like that disagreement will be a big part of the entire season.
In fact, divorce is going to be one of the main topics this time. A top HBO executive, Francesca Orsi, said in an interview that the show will explore how divorce started becoming a real issue during that period in American history. She said the season will raise questions about things like arranged marriages, what happens when they fail, what divorce meant back then, how people in society reacted to it, and whether a divorced person was still accepted in their social circles or pushed away.
The show is set in a time of huge change in America, called the Gilded Age. It was when the country was seeing a lot of growth, money, and change in how people lived and behaved. A big part of the drama in the show comes from the fights between the old-money families, who had been rich for generations, and the new-money families, who had only recently become wealthy and were trying to fit in.
This season will also introduce a bunch of new actors, including some well-known names like Bill Camp, Merritt Wever, Leslie Uggams, Lisagay Hamilton, Phylicia Rashad, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Jordan Donica, and Victoria Clark. They’ll be playing new characters who are sure to shake things up. What roles they’ll play and what drama will unfold? We’ll have to watch and find out.
The Gilded Age season 3 release date
Season 3 of The Gilded Age will be released in the UK on Monday, 23rd June. You can watch it on Sky Atlantic and NOW at 2am (if you’re staying up late or waking up early), and again at a more comfortable time, 9pm that same evening.
The good news is, it’s being shown at the same time as in the US, so UK viewers won’t have to deal with any spoilers or wait for new episodes to become available. You get to enjoy all the drama as soon as it airs, just like the American audience.

The Gilded Age season 3 plot details
Season 3 of The Gilded Age is going to be full of big changes, risky decisions, and dramatic twists for all the characters.
The official description states that the American Gilded Age was a period in history when people amassed substantial wealth and ascended the social ladder. But success didn’t come easily. People had to make big sacrifices, and nothing came without a cost.
After the “Opera War” (a social battle from the previous season), the older, traditional families have lost some of their power. The Russell family, who are newer to wealth, are now ready to rise and take the top spot in New York’s high society.
Bertha Russell has her eyes on something huge, something that could lift her family’s status to a whole new level. Meanwhile, her husband, George, is taking a massive business gamble in the railroad world. If it works, he could change the industry. But if it fails, it might destroy everything he’s worked for.
On the other side of the street, things aren’t calm either. In the Brook family home, Agnes is angry because Ada is now seen as the head of the house, a role Agnes always held before. That shift is going to cause some serious drama between the two women.
Peggy, another main character, starts a new romance with a charming doctor from Newport. But there’s trouble, his family doesn’t like the fact that Peggy is a working woman, and they don’t support her career. This raises themes of gender, race, and class, all intertwined with romance.
As the city of New York rushes toward a new future, the people in it are chasing after their dreams, but some of them might lose the things they care about most along the way.
Christine Baranski, who plays Agnes, shared that her character is going through a difficult time this season. At the end of season 2, Agnes was no longer in charge of her household, which is a big blow to someone who’s always been proud and powerful. Baranski said it’s fun to play this “fall from power” and that there will be some humour in watching this strong, proud woman struggle with her new reality.
Even before season 3 was confirmed, one of the show’s writers, Sonja Warfield, said she had plenty of ideas. She explained that history is full of stories and events that can be used in the show, and that they keep finding interesting real-life moments to weave into the characters’ journeys.
For example, in season 1 they included Thomas Edison and electric lights, and in season 2 they brought in the Tuskegee Institute. Now, in season 3, we’ll get to discover another new piece of history as the story continues.
There’s a lot to look forward to, drama, power shifts, romance, ambition, and the ever-changing world of New York’s elite during one of America’s most fascinating time periods.
