Homer’s Odyssey is set to make its feature debut in theaters on July 17, 2026. Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film promises an epic retelling of the classic story, bringing his signature cinematic style to the tale of Odysseus. The first trailer, released on December 22, gives a glimpse of the journey and the challenges that lie ahead.

Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, leading his soldiers home after the Trojan War. The trailer shows him marching forward, determined to return to Ithaca, but facing enormous obstacles along the way. Anne Hathaway plays Penelope, Odysseus’ wife, who waits desperately for his return. Scenes from before the war show their emotional farewell, with Penelope asking, “Promise me you will come back,” and Odysseus replying, “What if I can’t?”

Tom Holland plays Telemachus, Odysseus’ son, now grown and ready to stand by his father. The trailer hints at the chaos and dangers awaiting the soldiers, as well as the struggles Odysseus’ family faces at home.

The film also showcases Odysseus’ perilous voyage by sea, encountering some of the story’s most famous challenges. The Trojan Horse makes an appearance, along with a rare full-face look at Matt Damon as Odysseus.

The cast is star-studded, including Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Zendaya as Athena, Charlize Theron as Circe, Jon Bernthal as Menelaus, Benny Safdie as Agamemnon, John Leguizamo as Eumaeus, Himesh Patel as Eurylochus, Mia Goth as Melantho, Jimmy Gonzales as Cepheus, and Bill Irwin as Polyphemus. Lupita Nyong’o, Elliot Page, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, and several others also join the ensemble.

With Nolan at the helm and this impressive cast, The Odyssey promises to be a visually striking and emotionally gripping adaptation of the classic epic.
