BTS members V and Jungkook’s ongoing defamation case against YouTuber Sojang could be headed toward a resolution. According to a July 3 report by Star Today, the Seoul court has scheduled a settlement discussion for July 21 at 9:40 a.m. KST. Unlike previous proceedings, this round is a court-mediated session aimed at encouraging both sides to reach an agreement. There’s speculation that V and Jungkook may need to appear in person for this meeting, although no official confirmation has been made.

The case was redirected from a full hearing to a settlement discussion by the second-level court on June 16. Under Article 28 of the Civil Procedure Act, if a settlement is reached during this session, it will carry the same legal weight as a final ruling. This approach is typically used to help both parties resolve disputes efficiently and without further trial.

The defamation lawsuit was originally filed in January 2025 after Sojang, a controversial YouTuber running the Taldeok Camp channel, was accused of spreading 23 false and damaging videos about V and Jungkook between October 2021 and June 2023. In February, the court found her guilty and ordered her to pay 76 million KRW (approximately 53,000 USD) in damages—less than the initial 90 million KRW requested by the plaintiffs. The ruling included 51 million KRW awarded to BIGHIT MUSIC, 10 million KRW to V, and 15 million KRW to Jungkook.

With the court now steering the case toward a possible settlement, the next phase could see direct involvement from the idols and a conclusion that wraps up a long and highly publicized legal battle. Fans are closely watching how this next step unfolds.
