Broken Lizard’s beloved comedy troupe has officially kicked off production on Super Troopers 3. The group, made up of Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske, not only wrote the script but will also reprise their iconic roles. Chandrasekhar is returning to direct, with Richard Perello producing. According to the studio, principal photography is set to begin later this week, marking the long-awaited continuation of the cult-favorite franchise.

The cast will see a mix of familiar faces and fresh additions. Brian Cox is back as the no-nonsense Captain John O’Hagan, while Marisa Coughlan returns as Ursula Hanson. Joining the team are Nat Faxon as Captain Todd Markowski, Chace Crawford as Baker Buchanan, and SNL alum Andrew Dismukes as Coy Burns. The new lineup introduces a blend of seasoned performers and rising comedic talent, aiming to expand the film’s humor and energy while staying true to the original tone.

Searchlight Pictures, the studio behind the project, expressed its excitement about continuing the long-standing partnership with Broken Lizard. “Broken Lizard has been part of the Searchlight family for over two decades, and we couldn’t be more thrilled for another entry in the Super Troopers saga,” said Searchlight President Matthew Greenfield. “Super Troopers has a way of making the absurd feel inevitable, and we can’t wait to bring audiences along on another adventure with these characters who leave a trail of joy and laughter, wherever their patrols may take them.”

The creative formula remains consistent with the franchise’s past entries, as Broken Lizard once again handles the writing and performance duties, while Chandrasekhar directs under Searchlight’s banner. The troupe is known for other cult comedies like Club Dread, Beerfest, and The Slammin’ Salmon, but Super Troopers has always been their most enduring hit. In a playful note teasing the film’s vibe, Chandrasekhar quipped, “Broken Lizard is excited to help bring the theatrical comedy back. To America, we say, ‘It’s mustache-growing time!’”

Behind the scenes, the project is being overseen by Apolline Berty, Richard Ruiz, and Daniel Yu, who report to Searchlight’s co-heads DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas. With a loyal fan base and a reputation for outrageous humor, Super Troopers 3 looks set to deliver another round of quirky law enforcement antics that lean heavily into the absurd.
