For years, fans of Gilmore Girls have passionately debated who would be the perfect match for Rory Gilmore—whether it’s Team Jess, Team Dean, or Team Logan. Now, the show’s creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, has finally weighed in with her own perspective on who should be Rory’s ideal boyfriend.

In a conversation with her husband, Daniel Palladino, Amy shared her definitive thoughts on the matter. Fans might have been hoping for a clear endorsement of one of Rory’s suitors, but Amy’s answer was a bit of a twist. She revealed that she is firmly on “Team Rory,” meaning that in her eyes, Rory can have whatever she wants in terms of love. “What she wants, she can have,” Amy explained, suggesting that Rory’s happiness and choices should ultimately come down to what makes her feel fulfilled, rather than who the fans might want her to end up with.

Daniel Palladino also joined in on the conversation, offering some insightful commentary on Rory’s love interests. He shared that he has a strong emotional connection with all three of Rory’s key romantic partners—Dean (played by Jared Padalecki), Jess (played by Milo Ventimiglia), and Logan (played by Matt Czuchry). “We know all three of those guys very well,” he said, acknowledging the bond they share with the actors, as he and Amy feel like they helped guide the boys’ characters from a very young age.

The Palladinos also reminisced about the early days of working with Jared Padalecki, who played Dean. Daniel recalled meeting Jared when he was only 17 or 18 years old, fresh from Texas. “I think Jared was 17 or 18; he was fresh off the bus,” he said, laughing as he remembered how they were literally waiting for him at the bus station. Amy added that they were eagerly anticipating the arrival of a good-looking young man from Texas, marking the beginning of their long relationship with him as an actor. Of course, Jared later went on to achieve fame as Sam Winchester in Supernatural.

While Amy’s answer may not have settled the debate for Team Jess, Dean, or Logan fans, it provides a fresh and empowering perspective: Rory should choose who makes her happiest, and she is entitled to the love she desires.
