The Chosen is one of the most significant global streaming platforms for biblical dramas. It portrays Jesus Christ’s life and ministry through human eyes (his followers) as well as through the perspective of those around Him. The anticipation for Season 6 of this show builds on all the excitement from Season 5, with many fans looking forward to Season 6 being filled with many emotions (drama) and incredible storytelling, just like previous seasons. According to ChosenCon, creator Dallas Jenkins said that this season will include 6 of the first episodes to be played/exclusively on Prime Video in fall 2026, with the finale having millions of people see it on the big screen as a global movie (spring 2027).

The Chosen Season 6: Release Date

Season 6 of The Chosen has been officially announced to be in production, with a planned release structure to be as follows:

– Season 6 of the series will be produced as the first six episodes will be available to watch on Amazon Prime Video in the Fall of 2026 (likely around Sept–Nov. TBD).

– The final episode of Season 6 will be produced as an independent feature film and released in theatres worldwide in the spring of 2027 (with many sources pointing to a March 12, 2027, showing as part of this large-scale, multi-language, night event around the world).

This means that not only has the production design of Season 6 made it unlike any previous season (the largest and toughest season of all), but also a long, extended period of post-production (with visual effects and translations, etc.) is adding to the timeline’s significant length. Filming completed in 2025; the director, Dallas Jenkins, called it the “most challenging” to create due to the level of emotional and physical challenge on the cast and crew.

As with Seasons 1 – 5 (now ongoing), Season 6 & the series will continue to be available for viewing on the Chosen App, and other platform(s) will be available after the first run of this season on Amazon Prime Video, and after the theatrical release on March 12.

The Chosen Season 6: Cast Details

The core ensemble is returning for Season 6, reprising their roles from previous seasons:

  • Jonathan Roumie as Jesus (central to the season’s intense events).
  • Shahar Isaac as Simon Peter.
  • Elizabeth Tabish as Mary Magdalene.
  • Paras Patel as Matthew.
  • Noah James as Andrew.
  • George H. Xanthis as John.
  • Luke Dimyan as Judas (though his arc from prior seasons may conclude dramatically).
  • Other recurring apostles and figures like Jordan Walker Ross as Little James, and supporting roles such as Pontius Pilate (Andrew James Allen) are expected to feature prominently.

The cast has described filming as emotionally and physically demanding, especially scenes involving the crucifixion.

The Chosen Season 6: Story

Season six will be exclusively based on Good Friday and will portray the 24 hours before Jesus was arrested, tried, betrayed, and crucified. It is the second to last season leading up to the final season of the series (season seven), with the theme of surrender as the focus – Jesus’ surrendering himself to suffering, and the surrendering by the disciples to their fear after Jesus has been arrested. Expect drama, emotion, tears, and great detail in representing the Passion. It is said to be very upsetting, possibly even the most monumental occurrence thus far. The finale is said to be a huge movie event.

Season six begins where season five left off – on its way towards these moments – with a promised larger-than-life size for both its scope and its production quality.
