Ted Lasso fans have a reason to celebrate as Hannah Waddingham officially returns as Rebecca Welton in Season 4 of the beloved Apple TV+ series. After a long hiatus and widespread speculation that Season 3 marked the end of the road for AFC Richmond’s journey, the show is back in development—two years after its previous season aired.
Speaking to Variety at the Smurfs premiere, Waddingham couldn’t hide her excitement about reviving her role. With her trademark wit, she likened the return of Ted Lasso to “the most beautiful, beloved dog that was buried, and now we’ve exhumed it.” The Emmy-winning actress admitted she had been “hankering” to find out what happened to her character post-Season 3. “She’s my girl. She’s in my bloodstream,” Waddingham added, visibly thrilled about diving back into Rebecca’s world. Her eagerness to explore where the character is headed, as well as her enthusiasm for planning her wardrobe for the upcoming season, was evident in her playful and heartfelt remarks.
Waddingham’s return coincides with the confirmation that Jason Sudeikis, who stars as the optimistic coach Ted Lasso, will also reprise his role. Upon the show’s renewal, Sudeikis released a statement teasing the new season’s theme: “In season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.” His words hint at a shift in philosophy, likely setting the tone for another season filled with emotional growth, unexpected decisions, and signature heartwarming moments.
While Apple TV+ has not yet confirmed the full cast, fans can likely expect many familiar faces to return alongside Waddingham and Sudeikis. Season 4 is poised to answer lingering questions about the futures of beloved characters and continue the journey of self-discovery, leadership, and camaraderie that has made Ted Lasso such a standout series.
With production set to begin soon, more updates about the storyline and returning cast members are expected in the coming weeks. For now, Hannah Waddingham’s joy is more than enough to reignite the excitement around AFC Richmond’s next chapter.
