Taylor Swift and actress Jaime King may not be as close as they once were, but according to insiders, there’s still a lot of love between them. King was once a key member of Swift’s famous girl squad, and their bond was so strong that Swift was even named godmother to King’s youngest son, Leo.

However, a source close to King revealed that their friendship has faded over time. “Taylor and Jaime aren’t in touch like they used to be, and they don’t really talk anymore. But there’s no bad blood—there’s still love and respect between them,” the source told US Weekly on March 21.

Despite the distance, Swift remains committed to her role as Leo’s godmother. The Cruel Summer singer still sends him thoughtful gifts on special occasions and would be there for him in a heartbeat if he ever needed her. “She takes her role as godmother very seriously,” the source added, emphasizing that King couldn’t have asked for a more loving and supportive godparent for her son.

Swift and King’s friendship began in 2014 when they met at a Golden Globes party. A year later, King, who was pregnant with Leo at the time, asked Swift to be his godmother. Their bond was further strengthened by King’s then-husband, Kyle Newman, who directed Swift’s Style music video in 2015.

News of their drifting friendship comes at a difficult time in King’s life. The White Chicks actress went through a painful divorce from Newman in 2020 after 13 years of marriage and was granted a restraining order against him.

Their split has been messy, with Newman later accusing King of struggling with chronic drug and alcohol addiction both before their marriage and throughout her pregnancies. He even alleged that Leo was born with drugs in his system due to King’s substance abuse issues.

Now, the former couple—who also share an 11-year-old son, James—are locked in a heated custody battle, adding another layer of difficulty to King’s already tumultuous life.
