Taylor Swift’s new album The Life of a Showgirl is dominating global charts, selling a record-breaking 3.5 million copies in its first week. Alongside her musical success, Taylor has also been in the spotlight for her engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce. The power couple got engaged privately on August 10, 2025, and announced it publicly later that month on August 26. Recently, while promoting her album on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Taylor shared a lighthearted story from her 2024 Eras Tour involving her fiancé — and a case of mistaken identity that had everyone laughing.

During the interview, Taylor revealed that Travis Kelce is a big fan of Barbie director Greta Gerwig. The pop icon said that Travis would often hang out in the VIP tents during her concerts and later return with fun stories about the celebrities he met. Taylor recalled telling Travis one night, “I got to let you know, your favourite director is in the tent.” She said Travis was thrilled to know Greta Gerwig was there and eagerly wanted to tell her how much he loved Barbie. Taylor encouraged him, saying, “You absolutely should. She’s the sweetest, giggliest person to tell that you like their work.”

However, what happened next turned into one of the funniest memories of their tour. Taylor went on to explain that at her London Eras Tour stop in June 2024, actor Hugh Grant had attended the show with his wife, Anna Eberstein. Travis, unaware of who she was, mistook Anna for Greta Gerwig and enthusiastically complimented her for directing Barbie. He even joked, “I’m just Ken too,” while pointing toward Taylor — completely oblivious to the fact that he was talking to the wrong person.

Later that night, when Taylor asked Travis whether he got to chat with Greta, he said she seemed a little quiet and might not have appreciated his joke. He added that she was “dancing really closely with Hugh Grant” and looked like she was working on a movie with him. It wasn’t until later, when Taylor saw videos from the event, that the truth came out. Travis sheepishly admitted, “Oh, that’s not Greta.”

Taylor recounted how she pieced everything together and teasingly told her fiancé, “Is there any chance at all, baby, that you complimented Hugh Grant’s wife, Anna, on her movie Barbie, said, ‘I’m just Ken too,’ and she politely nodded because she didn’t have the heart to tell you she didn’t direct it? And is there any chance that the people that looked like soulmates are Hugh Grant and his soulmate?”

The story had Seth Meyers and the audience laughing, showcasing Taylor’s signature humor and warmth. Between her chart-topping album, whirlwind engagement, and playful relationship moments, The Life of a Showgirl era is proving to be one of the most joyful — and entertaining — chapters in Taylor Swift’s life.
