Taylor Swift celebrated her fans’ vibrant creativity during her Eras Tour stop at New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome on Friday, October 25. In a heartfelt message, the singer, 34, expressed awe at how Swifties have made friendship bracelet trading an iconic part of her tour, sharing that she is “so proud” of the joyful community her fans have fostered.
Taylor Swift talks about the friendship bracelets during her concert:
In a video posted by a fan account on X (formerly Twitter), Swift addressed the cheering crowd, stating, “You’ve created traditions. You’ve created this mass movement of joy every time we play a show. And it makes me so proud, it really does.” Reflecting on the unexpected origins of the bracelet trend, she added, “I just showed up one day and you guys were trading friendship bracelets and I was like, ‘that’s cool’ — and now there is a giant friendship bracelet on the outside of this stadium.”
The supersized bracelet displayed outside the Caesars Superdome stands as a testament to the trend’s impact on the Eras Tour, a movement that began with fans inspired by Swift’s 2022 track “You’re On Your Own, Kid.” The lyrics, “So make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it,” sparked a collective ritual among fans to create beaded bracelets featuring song titles, lyrics, and personal messages. These bracelets are then worn and exchanged among Swifties at each concert, a joyful tradition now synonymous with the tour’s identity.
Celebrities attending Swift’s shows have joined the fun as well. Stars including Selena Gomez, Halsey, Lupita Nyong’o, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, and Blake Lively have proudly worn bracelets gifted by fans. On Friday night in New Orleans, Swift’s close friend Lively, 37, attended with her husband Ryan Reynolds, furthering the tour’s celebrity appeal. Actor Josh Hutcherson was also spotted enjoying the performance, as shown in fan videos.
Swift’s New Orleans concerts mark her second-to-last U.S. city on this leg of the Eras Tour, which started in March 2023. Following her three New Orleans shows, Swift will continue on to Indianapolis, then wrap up the U.S. portion in Toronto and Vancouver. As she noted in her Friday address, the friendship bracelet trend has gone “beyond what I ever expected for this tour,” an achievement she lovingly credits to her fans’ spirit and creativity.
