Sydney Sweeney, the Euphoria and Anyone But You actress, is stepping into some serious shoes, or should we say boxing gloves,  for her next big role. She’s playing Christy Martin, a legendary American boxer, in an upcoming biopic. And to get into character, she didn’t just throw on a pair of gloves, she transformed her entire body.

In a recent interview with W Magazine, Sydney revealed that she put on almost 30 pounds of muscle while training for the role. That’s right,  she bulked up so much that her regular jeans didn’t fit anymore. She joked that she usually wears a size 23, but suddenly found herself squeezing into a 27. Even her boobs and butt got bigger, and she was like, “Oh my god!”

But this wasn’t some “ugh, I feel bloated” kind of story. Sydney was actually loving the change. She said she felt “crazy strong”, and honestly, she sounded pretty proud of how far she pushed herself. Her training included intense weight lifting and kickboxing, not exactly the average celeb Pilates routine.

What is Sydney Sweeney’s movie about?

The film itself hasn’t been titled yet, but it’s being directed by David Michôd, who’s known for gritty, dramatic storytelling. The biopic will focus on Christy Martin’s rise as the most famous female boxer in America, but it won’t shy away from her personal struggles either.

In real life, Christy survived a horrifying domestic violence attack. Her husband at the time, James Martin, tried to kill her, stabbing her multiple times and shooting at her in their Florida home. Somehow, she survived. And now, Sydney Sweeney is getting ready to tell that powerful, painful, and inspiring story on the big screen.

Sydney first teased her training journey back in October 2024 with a video on Instagram. She captioned it, “Over the past few months, I’ve been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman, a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring.”

And she won’t be doing it alone. The cast also includes Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, Katy O’Brien, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, Chad L. Coleman, and Tony Cavalero, so expect a solid lineup.

Sydney didn’t just act tough, she became tough. And this might just be her most powerful role yet.
