Sydney Sweeney has officially called off her engagement to longtime partner Jonathan Davino, ending a relationship that had been going strong since 2018.
According to insiders who spoke to People magazine, the decision to go their separate ways was mostly driven by Sweeney’s laser focus on her career, which has been taking off in a big way lately. At the same time, the relationship had been under growing strain, and the couple had started living apart. They also began to rethink whether their engagement still made sense.
One source explained that while many would find Sweeney’s packed work schedule overwhelming, she actually thrives on it. “She’s exactly where she wants to be right now,” the source said. “Most people would be stressed out by everything on her plate, but not Sydney. She’s full of energy and loving all the projects she’s involved in.”
At 27, Sweeney is juggling a number of exciting roles — she’s starring in The Housemaid and Echo Valley, and she’s set to portray Hollywood icon Kim Novak and boxing legend Christy Martin in upcoming films. Clearly, her calendar is packed with ambitious projects.
But as her professional life soared, her personal life got more complicated. The source said that planning a wedding while managing her intense career made Sydney realize she wasn’t in the right headspace for marriage. “What really overwhelmed her wasn’t the work — it was the relationship and the idea of getting married. It just didn’t feel right to her.”
It’s important to note that the breakup wasn’t because she didn’t care about Davino. The insider stressed that Sweeney still had love for him, but she felt it was time to put herself and her goals first. “She’s just not ready to settle down yet. They stayed together as long as they did because ending it was tough for her. But in the end, the decision came down to her wanting to focus on her own path.”
