The sequel to Super Mario Bros. now has an official title and release date. The upcoming film will be called The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and is set to hit theaters in the first half of 2026. The announcement came during a Nintendo Direct on Friday, ahead of the franchise’s 40th anniversary on September 13. Chris Pratt and Anya Taylor-Joy will return, along with Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kevin Michael Richardson lending their voices to the new film.
The movie takes its title from Nintendo’s 2007 hit video game Super Mario Galaxy. During the teaser shown at Nintendo Direct, Mario was seen napping under a tree, with Princess Peach’s castle in the distance. Viewers also got a glimpse of Monty Mole burrowing underground, Cheep Cheeps swimming in a stream, and Toads jumping around near the castle, hinting at more adventures in the Mushroom Kingdom.
The original Super Mario Bros. movie, released in April 2023, was a huge box office success, earning $1.36 billion worldwide. It has become one of the most successful video game adaptations ever and currently ranks fifth in global box office collections, following Ne Zha 2, Inside Out 2, The Lion King, and Frozen 2. Fans are already excited to see Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, and the rest of the cast return for the new adventure.
