Stranger Things Season 5 has started with a bang, and the show still feels as strange and exciting as ever. But the biggest surprise so far is not about the Upside Down itself. It is about Will. At the end of Episode 4, Will stops the Demogorgons using telepathic powers. This raises the big question.
How does Will actually have powers now in Stranger Things season 5, and is this something real or just a one-time moment?
Since Season 1, the show has made it clear that Will has a deep connection with Vecna. It was never something he chose. It happened because of what Vecna did to him when he was taken in the very first season. The new episodes even start with a flashback showing what happened to him back then. It hints that Vecna changed something inside Will. Because of that, Will can sense the Upside Down. He can feel the hive mind. He knows where the monsters are and what they are thinking.
But Will never fully accepted this part of himself. He has always been scared of it. In Episode 4 of the new season, everything changes. Will finally stops running from that connection. He embraces it. And because of that, he is able to use powers that look very similar to both Vecna and Eleven. He uses them to freeze the Demogorgons and stop them from killing his friends.
So yes. Will does have powers in Season 5. And now he might finally be able to fight alongside Eleven instead of living in fear. His link to Vecna could become the biggest weapon the group has. It might even help them destroy the Upside Down once and for all.
